Darlington Workspace hosted its annual client summer social earlier this month, welcoming tenants and ambassadors from both sites for an afternoon of fun and networking.
This year, the party had a competitive twist with the theme of ‘A Day at the Races’, organised by staff members at Darlington Workspace. Tenants were treated to an afternoon tea-style buffet and drinks supplied by Nickynoo Quirky Mobile Bars.
Darlington Workspace offer these community events to bring together organisations across our sites to network and socialise. It gives our clients a chance to meet business owners and other tenants, fostering new working relationships in a fun, friendly environment.
Regional Manager Vanessa Wood said, “We have been hosting client events for several years now, such as Christmas parties, Summer BBQs, Charity events, Sporting events and National celebrations like the Jubilee.
“We started them to give back to clients, create a positive, friendly atmosphere, and it meant we also got to know them and their staff outside of their office. We have had various themes, costumes, competitions, outdoor games, music, drinks and all kinds of catering. All our suppliers are also other small businesses from the region, which helps promote what they do too. It’s about being more than just a landlord or space operator; it’s about being part of something, connections and most of all fun!”
Darlington Workspace also had six races to bet on provided by Premiere Race Nights, seeing clients and ambassadors betting against each other on horse (and pig!) races. Whilst no real money was used or won, the feeling in the room was electric, with winners for ‘Biggest Winner’ and ‘Most Generous Punter’ going to Beverley Atkinson from Chadwick Lawrence and Andy Read from Resilient Business Systems respectively.

“It was really lovely to see so many of our clients come along and enjoy the day,” said Nicole Johnstone, Centre Manager for Darlington Workspace. “Our businesses trust us to provide the space and support their need to grow, so being able to give something back to them and create opportunities for everyone to come together is really important to us.”
The afternoon also saw a series of other games and competitions held, such as the ‘Pony or Phoney’ round, a ‘Winner’s Circle Quiz’, a ‘Thoroughbred Tunes’ music round and finally a ‘Photo Finish’ picture round. The Quiz champions across the 3 rounds were ‘The Chadlaw Legends’ from Chadwick Lawrence, scoring an impressive 42/59 points.
“Events like the Summer Social also give us the chance to get to know the people behind the businesses a little better.” Added Nicole. “Those relationships make such a difference to the community we’re trying to create here – where people know one another, make connections and genuinely enjoy being part of Darlington Workspace. The atmosphere on the day was brilliant, and seeing everyone getting involved, having fun and meeting people from other businesses was exactly what we hoped for.”
Darlington Workspace would like to thank everyone who joined us for our ‘Day at the Races’ summer social. We hope all who attended enjoyed an afternoon of great food, friendly competition and networking, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for our Christmas social later in the year.
