A local business owner is in the running for a top five finish in national motorbike racing competition. James Logan, owner of Facility Six Ltd has been competing in the No Limits Racing League – a nine round championship series.
“You get to race with some of the top riders in the country,” said James Logan, Director of Facility Six Ltd. “There’s a lot to think about – it’s not just getting on the bike and thrashing it. At 150mph, it’s split-second stuff.
“There can be up to 40 riders in my race, I’m getting top-five finishes in most races now. My best finish is third, I’ve led a couple of races, and I’m currently sixth in the championship. I’m hoping for a top-five finish, or at least top ten for the season.
“There are parallels between racing and running the business. I’ve started treating racing more like a project: planning, watching videos, studying maps and working out how I’m going to improve rather than just turning up and riding.”
This is all whilst owning and operating Facility Six Ltd, which operates out of Business Central in Darlington. Business Central is owned by Darlington Borough Council, which is manage by the North East BIC. Facility Six grew from electrical work into plumbing, mechanical services and full refurbishments.
“Facility Six have been part of the Darlington Workspace community for five years now,” said Nicole Johnstone, Centre Manager. “It has been fantastic to follow James’ journey this season.
“We make a point of getting to know our tenants as we place community at the heart of what we do. Hearing about James’ passion for racing and how well he’s performing at a national level has been brilliant!
“Facility Six support us with our maintenance at both Business Central and Innovation Central sites and approach their work with pride and professionalism.
“We’ll certainly be cheering him on as he goes after that top five finish, and hopefully his success will encourage a few more people and businesses to get behind him too.”
James said: “Moving into Business Central helped the company look and feel more professional. It gave us a proper base rather than working from home, meeting in vans, or doing paperwork wherever we could. Once we came here, it also became clear that there was a real community around the place.
“The staff have been helpful and welcoming. Vanessa helps with deliveries and day-to-day things, and there’s always someone willing to help with printing, advice or little bits and bobs. Nothing feels like an issue.
“Facility Six is built around being reliable, honest and delivering a high standard. Those are the three things I’d like people to think of when they think of my business.
“Racing is the only time where I’m at ease – there are no thoughts, it’s just me racing the bike. It’s like being in a flow state, and that’s why I love it so much.
“Juggling the business and racing can be a challenge. However, every job has it’s own challenges. Racing gives me a chance to switch off, especially when I’m away in the camper van and focused on the bike.
“I have always been into motorbikes. My parents bought me my first trials bike, I used to do trials biking in fields and on back lanes.
“Later, I got my first road bike and I found out about track days. The first track day I ever did, my friends lapped me and were about 20 seconds quicker. I kept going and eventually got quicker. Then someone suggested racing, so I applied for my licence, did the medical, and never looked back.”
In September 2025 James’ business partner Dan moved to Australia leaving James to manage and operate the business. James said: “It was a shock to the system. It felt like losing my right arm.
“We have worked together every day for five or six years, so it was a huge change, and I had to think about whether I could keep going on my own.”
James added: “For the racing, the ambition is to finish top five this year, keep improving, and hopefully attract more sponsors. Graham Pepper from Pepper Drafting Services currently sponsors tyres. More support would help with costs, and sponsors could get their name on the bike, leathers or helmet.”
